Counselling and Psychotherapy are increasingly being recognised as helpful in the battle against depression and anxiety and more generally in helping people deal better with the stresses and strains of life today.  Counselling and psychotherapy really can help you cope better with stress and anxiety and help you overcome low mood and depression as well as other types of emotional distress such as relationship breakdown.  Depression and Anxiety are the two most common types of emotional distress presenting at GP surgeries, and whilst some GP's are offering counselling and psychotherapy as part of their health provision, often it comes only after a long wait of several months – by seeking out a private health care professional you can start treatment now!

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy? 

Counselling and Psychotherapy are both terms that refer to a therapy based on talking through your problem with a trained professional.  Whislt counselling has traditionally been seen as a 'listening' therapy, psychotherapy has tended towards 'creating change' in an individual, often by understanding how the past impacts on the present.  Many therapists use the terms 'Counselling and Psychotherapy' synonymously.

What is CBT counselling?

As a cognitive behavioural therapist, I use a model which has a proven record of success in helping people overcome common mental health and emotional health distress – indeed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT is recommended by NICE and is the talking therapy used by the NHS.
